ALDA – the European Association for Local Democracy has featured Dženana Dedić, Director of the Local Democracy Agency Mostar (LDA Mostar), as part of its new series dedicated to experts from ALDA’s Centre of Expertise on Participative Local Democracy.
In the story Dženana Dedić: Building democracy one citizen at a time, ALDA looks back at more than two decades of her work dedicated to strengthening dialogue between citizens and local authorities, developing participatory mechanisms, and empowering civil society in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and across the wider Western Balkans.
A significant part of the story is the development of LDA Mostar – from its establishment in 2004 within the ALDA network to becoming a recognised resource centre for local democracy. ALDA also highlights experiences ranging from advocacy for the restoration of local elections in Mostar and the Citizens’ Assembly, to work with neighbourhood councils, Electionville, and other processes that create more space for citizens to actively participate in decision-making.
For LDA Mostar, this recognition is particularly meaningful as it shows how knowledge and practices developed through long-term work in our local community are now becoming part of a broader European exchange of experience and expertise in participatory democracy.
